"Hospital stay"

About: Derriford Hospital

My brother was admitted to hound ward, he was found on the floor overnight and when woke he became very anxious and unsettled, the staff who looked after him over night were brilliant, they sat him in a wheelchair by the nurses station overnight and kept him company and gave reassurance, they then contacted me to ask if I could come in first thing in the morning to reassure and keep my brother company. Whilst sat there with him I took in what was going on around me. All the professionals who worked on this ward were brilliant and showed empathy and compassion throughout his stay, which made him feel a lot more at ease as nothing was a problem for them! This is what the caring profession is about Thank you! However this was a different story when he then moved to burrator, a hca was very abrupt and rude and made some very unprofessional comments! I don't understand why they feel the need to do this as no matter what your relative is in hospital for whether it be for a tooth ache or open heart surgery, it is frightening for the family and patient and when staff take it upon themselves to be outright rude, this is not acceptable. A friends and family survey was not handed out here and I had voiced my opinions and they obviously didn't want it in writing!
