Nothing - I was absolutely shocked by what I found.

What could be improved

My friend had fallen and hurt her back - at the time they thought she might have broken her back and she was told to lie very still. When we arrived we found the water on her table but she could not reach this. Her call bell was not near her so even if she wanted to call a nurse she could not. She was basically unable to get a drink or to ask for help. In the two hours we were on the ward, we did not see a nurse come to her bay - they must have been very busy elsewhere.

Anything else?

Near the end of our visit, we heard an elderly woman scream asking for help, this went on for at least 5 minutes. I went in search of a nurse to help the lady but could not find one. It seems that all staff were taking a break at the same time - how could this be? Also, the staff room was next to this elderly lady's room - why didn't a staff member go to check on her? Seemingly, staff lack compassion.
