"Car Parking Good Hope Hospital"

About: Good Hope Hospital / General surgery

(as the patient),

Staff and care at this hospital is very good. The problem is parking. There are too many patients from the surrounding areas coming to this hospital for treatment and totally inadequate parking facilities. There are many people who complain about having to pay. Whilst this is bad enough, it would be good if enough spaces were available.

Blue badge places (I do not need this facility) are very few.

Cars are parked on pavements, on double yellow lines, driving around the car parks trying to find a space. I have witnessed this now many times.

Something needs to be done to increase parking spaces. Could a "second layer" of parking spaces be built in existing car parks as there is no room to expand. It is bad enough having to visit this hospital, but even worse when you have to arrive an hour before an appointment to find a parking space. Blood pressure through the roof every time.

Dear Hannah,

thank you for your comments. I am sorry you found it so difficult to park. we had plans for a 3-tier car park previously, unfortunately they have been put on hold due to the fiancial situation of the trust.

I will raise this issue with the new chief of ops and Dame Julie Moore to see what can be done to revive these plans.

capital plans for next financial year (from April) are nearly finished, and we are planning to invest in infrastructure that directly benefits patient care (x-ray machines, endoscopes, scanners, IT and similar).

So, disappointingly, it will not be likely that we achieve to build a car park next year, but I will champion this cause for you with the executive team.

Thank you for your reply.

I understand the need to spend money on xray machines etc.

For people trying to park it is a big problem, when not feeling well. It sometimes can take up to 30 minutes to find a space.

If the issue can remain on the agenda to improve that would be a step forward. It really will need to come to the top of the list very soon.

Hannah
