"excellent maternity care for multiple births"

About: Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh at Little France / Maternity care

(as the patient),

I had twins at RIE in 2007. I thought the care was excellent from start to finish and when you're having twins you get to spend plenty of time at the hospital as you get a lot more antenatal appointments.

The twins clinic are very good. Staff at ultrasound are great.

I had some other minor complications with a cyst on my liver and this was looked into very quickly and thoroughly. One of my twins was also found to have a cyst on a kidney during a prenatal scan nad this has also been very well treated.

All the treatment I received before and during the birth was of a high standard. However, the level of postnatal support for multiple births was the really remarakable aspect of our care. The midwives and nurses who helped me get used to having twins and to establish breast feeding really were marvellous. It made such a difference to get off to a good start.

It's a shame the infirmary is now quite far from town but I was pleasantly surprised by my room clean, bright and welcoming.

If I had one negative comment it woudl be on behalf of my partner, who was very iuncomfortable during a long birth as he didn't have the advantage of a bed to lie on! so better chairs for fathers- recliners if possible but other than that brilliant. well done. thanks.
