"Staff shortage given as excuse"

About: Royal Bolton Hospital / Clinical haematology

(as a carer),

My wife was receiving treatment for cancer. Due to problems she was taken to Churchill unit and was diagnosed with low B.P. and dehydration so was then admitted to another ward at 3.30pm. She was given a saline drip and at 5.15pm the drip ran out.

At 7pm the drip was replaced after 3 requests and complaints. We were given staff shortage as excuse.

She was in agony and it seemed to me as if bank staff were on this ward and although individuals worked hard on a number of occasions, I feel as if my wife was missed out.

I thought meals, tea/drinks and requests on the "buzzer" took some time to answer.

On moving to C1 ward the staff all appeared to be on the ward permanently and I thought the services and care works were excellent.
