"The credit they deserve"

About: Northumbria Specialist Emergency Care Hospital

I visited Northumbria Specialist Emergency Care Hospital on Sunday 10th January 2016 in incredible pain, to discover I had an extremely large cyst on my left ovary (16cm in length, containing over a litre of fluid), which had twisted itself, and was trying to strangle my ovary. I required keyhole surgery to drain and remove the cyst, and was discharged on the Tuesday evening.

During my stay I was made to feel comfortable, a priority, and extremely cared for by each staff member I encountered. It's due to this care, professionalism and the support of all the staff involved that I'm recovering as quickly as I am.

Special thanks to all of the unsung heroes in A&E, Ward 3, Theatre, Recovery, Ward 1, the Porters and the Aftercare Team (the phone call I recently received to 'see how I was doing' was a wonderful gesture)

I firmly believe that these amazingly devoted people don't receive anywhere close to the credit they deserve. They work extremely hard, and always with a smile on their faces. Nothing is ever too much trouble for them, and every effort is made to ensure the highest quality of treatment is provided. I even had a nurse quoting Chandler Bing from Friends in attempt to make me laugh. It worked!

Thanks again everyone. You're each a credit to the hospital, your profession and our NHS :-)

Dear Claire

What wonderful feedback - thank you very much for taking the time to let us know of our recent experience.

What is really apparent is that all staff you came across had the same high standards of care and professionalism. This is just as it should be and is lovely to hear.

It’s very important that patients feel as comfortable and relaxed as possible so it’s nice to hear that these high standards of care were carried out with good humour.

As you say, this can make all the difference.

I’ll make sure that all the staff you mention receive this comment, they will be delighted.

I hope that you are now feeling much better and are continuing to recover well at home.

Claire Riley, director of communications and corporate affairs
