"Unequal MRSA treatment at Northern General"

My father had a stroke and went to Northern General for a fractured hip, staying on Huntsman 5 and when he was there he had MRSA. Because of MRSA my father was put in Room 2 and hardly saw anyone. His speech and mobility went back to how he was when he first had the stroke.

Everything could have been better. The staff's attitude was poor and it was bad not being able to find out what was going on.

It was unacceptable for my father to be told that he should just wet the bed, and the nurses would change it. He was given the wrong food, and told that it was what he had ordered, when he knew he hadn't. He might be 80, but he's not daft.

My father spent 6 weeks in Huntsman 5. He was put in room 2, he was having more trouble with his chest and the MRSA totally treat like a leper. He had MRSA in Brearly but that was cleared up, then when he went to Huntsman they said he had to be isolated. The infection nurse said so. She called us liars when we told her dad was in a normal ward on Brearly with other patients, of 5 of them and 3 had MRSA and were being barrier nursed.

Also, not enough staff and patients use the wash supplied. Staff don't clean chairs that everyone handles.

I would like to thank the staff on Brierly 4 ward, it is a happier and nicer ward, it has good staff all with good sense of humour and a nice nature toward patients.
