"Neurosurgery and Spinal Surgery : Excellence in..."

About: Salford Royal

I was admitted to by ambulance a year ago today to SRFT after being run over and sustaining traumatic brain injury and fracture of my cervical spine

I was on ward B4, acute trauma unit for 22 days.

All staff, ancillary, nursing, medical, and rehabilitation were professional, courteous, kind and helpful throughout my stay. The ward was always full and staff were often very busy. Despite this, they provided personal and caring support at all times. Handover was smotth and we'll managed.

There were patients more I'll than me. Some were very frail. A few were challenging, vocal, rude and demanding but all were treated with respect and dignity. Well done to everyone. By the way, the food was good too.

I am in the care of the rehabilitation consultant and consultant spinal surgeon. They are wonderful people. I am likely to need spinal surgery and know that I could not expect a better surgeon anywhere. I must also thank the neuropsycholical service. It too a long time before I was assessed but the assessments were as thorough as I hoped for.

Well done to everyone and thank you.

The only issue I have is the lack of support outside the hospital in South Manchester. There are not enough specialists or support for people with brain injuries and that is a matter of lack of funding. It is a disgrace that seriously ill people do not get the support needed to recover but not the fault of SRFT.
