"Antenatal shambles and Home Birth dream"

About: Princess Royal Hospital (Haywards Heath)

I recently gave birth to my first son at home, the 3 community midwives who attended were fabulous and we can't thank them enough.

They were incredibly respectful of our birth plan and hypnobirthing approach and everything went smoothly.

Unfortunately the antenatal midwifery care was a sham, constant mistakes, incorrect information given and I remained uncontacted post the 12wk scan until making my own appointment at 24weeks.

The post birth, breast feeding support I received also lacked in competence, knowledge and advice, both in my own home and at the weekly Wednesday drop in clinic. My son's severe posterior tongue tie was misdiagnosed by the multiple health professionals we were passed through, rarely seeing the same midwife twice. After resorting to private care, my son's tongue tie was diagnosed, released and our breastfeeding relationship dramatically improved after weeks of indescribable pain which made me nearly give up feeding.

Thank you for taking the time to share her experience with us. Please accept our sincere apologies for your experience during your antenatal and postnatal care. Our Head of Midwifery will use your feedback to share with the community midwifery team to ensure information and communication with women is strengthened.

If you would like to discuss your care I can arrange for a senior midwife to make contact with you.

Best wishes

Caroline Davies
