"Better spoken staff with clear ..."

About: City Hospital (Birmingham)

(as a relative),

What could be improved

Better spoken staff with clear english as a priority.

Staff should be more co-operative.

Communication between ward clerks and members of the public phoneing in about patients.

Anything else?

My mother was addmitted via A/E just before xmas.

She was kept in A/E from 12:00 noon till 9:30pm! staff kept saying there are no beds available in the whole hospital!

Eventually she was moved to D16, where some staff members can bearly speak clear english face to face and on the phone.

After 4 days my mum was discharged, that was another disappointment; when I phoned the ward clerk I was told the she would not be discharged yet.

However they had told my mum early in the morning that she could go home and no one phoned me to let me know even though I left 2 contact numbers, therefore the ward clerk had a lack of communication.

It was only till late afternoon at about 4pm when I called again to be told that she can go home.

When I saw my mum later she said she had been ready since the morning; but no on told me otherwise we would have collected her earlier.

Not very good at all.

It was also very difficult to get hold of a doctor to find out what was happening.
