"I was admitted to Charlotte ward ..."

About: Royal United Hospital

(as the patient),

What I liked

I was admitted to Charlotte ward after i was unable to go to the toilet after surgery and needed to be cathiterised.I have been on Charlotte ward a couple of times with on going Gyne problems and am due back there January 2010 for a Hysterectomy.I find the staff amazing, they are always very friendly and nothing is to much trouble for them. The auxillery nurses (in the dark red tops) are fantastic and were happy to make me a cup of tea when i wanted. The nurses have so much to do and yet even find the time to comfort you when you are a bit weepy.I can not fault the nurses on this ward and although i am going to have major surgery i am not as worried as i would have been had i not been on this ward before as i know i will be well looked after.

What could be improved

I had a bit of a spat with a cleaner as they only swifted the floor even though i told them my bag (of urine) exploded in the night and went all over the floor. They left the ward verbally telling everybody how a patient was not happy with the cleaning and complained to anyone who would listen. The nursing staff came in to say that they were not happy and i replied that i did not care they had asked me if i felt the ward had been cleaned properly and i had replied no. The cleaner did come back with a mop and mop the ward floor. It was just a shame it had to be pointed out.
