"I am 89 years of age but have ..."

About: Northampton General Hospital (Acute)

(as the patient),

What could be improved

I am 89 years of age but have full use of my mind and resent being spoken to as if I am senile. It is a shame that the nurses are unable to find the time to even smile and surely they should treat people of ALL ages with respect.

I went into hospital with a broken anke but with mind in tact and left hospital having been made to feel that I was no more than a vegetable, had it not been for family giving me confidence and got so low that I really did not want to carry on with life at one point.

On my ward one poor lady was left semi naked during visiting time with no screens around her, this is not treating people with dignity.

Anything else?

Whilst appreciating that catering for some many people must be difficult surely it does not require all food to be highly salted - surely that is not healthy, apart from which the food was poor in general. It is a shame that with budgets being cut all over that a little more effort could not be put into the food as a good diet aids recovery and having to supplement the food given with biscuits etc to avoid being hungry is not a good idea but unavoidable.

Perhaps some form of patient empowerment could be put into place.
