"Don't be put off by my experience"

About: Birmingham Women's Hospital

I for one have change my opinion on this hospital as after my sister had her baby via c section. They before being discharged she started to get an infection of the wound. She came to triage when a doctor examined her stitches he told her to wash it and air it. Then a really professional, honest and caring community midwife came and told my sister to make her way back to triage. She came in and the same doctor examined her again took a swab and sent her home with antibiotics. when the same community midwife came again to follow up swab results they said they have not had any swabs for my sister. For the 2-3 hours we are still waiting to be seen but a doctor. They also did not write a care plan for either and said it had been ripped out, but the book and all pages are intact.

The hospital care for the baby very well but for the mother they show no care what's so ever.

This shouldn't put people off coming her but I think you need to hear my side and if I don't speak up now no one will.

Thank you for taking the time to feedback.

I am very sorry your sister experienced difficulties following her caesarean section. Our Trust values are to show care and compassion at all times and I am sorry your sister did not feel like this.

I was very glad to read that you received care from a very caring community midwife. Your story has many specifics that without seeing your notes would be very difficult to answer. The matrons run a birth After Thoughts clinic where women can discuss their care and get clarity of what happened to them. If your sister (or you) contact our PALs office on 0121 607 4749, we can give you an appointment. At this time if we find that there are any issues that suggest substandard care we can take the details and deal with the individuals involved.

It is important to us that people feel well-looked after with our service and we would appreciate the opportunity to put this right.

Many thanks,

Trixie McAree, Head of Midwifery
