"The urology department and haematology..."

Earlier this week I was under the care of a Consultant to have a cystoscopy to remove amyloid from my ureter. The staff on the Elective care unit were kind and helpful. The anaesthetist was really lovely.

They chatted to me and made me laugh. They explained exactly about the anasthetic and what to expect when I came round.

The person who looked after me in the recovery area was really kind and thoughtful and they stayed with me and chatted until I was taken to a ward. They were kindness itself.

Although the procedure wasn't successful as the ureter to my left kidney was completely blocked, the Consultant explained the problem when I was on the ward and talked me briefly through what might happen next. Also another urologist who had assisted with the procedure also came to talk to me. They said they'd never treated anyone with Amyloidosis, but that they would be quite happy to work alongside the haematology unit.

I was amazed when the anaesthetist also came to ensure that there had been no reactions to the anaesthetic.They were all so professional, but kind, friendly and caring. It was so different from the treatment I had received at another hospital, where nobody explained anything to me and the locum who removed a tumour from my bladder never visited me at all, or explained anything during the 8 days I was in hospital.

As I had a history of bleeding, they found an overnight bed for me on the Elective Care Ward.

Here again the staff were really helpful and attentive.

I know that I will have to have further treatment to resolve the problem of the blocked ureter, when I have had another Renogram, but I will be pleased that my treatment will be carried out at Manchester Royal.

I must also say how excellent the Consultant in the Haematology unit has been kindness themself. Well done MRIand has done everything they can to work alongside the Urology ward. Also they are absolute whizzes at taking blood samples without causing any bruising or any discomfort.
