"Severely disappointed with regard to my treatment!"

About: Worcestershire Royal Hospital

From the moment I stepped through the door at the Worcester Royal Hospital to the moment I was sent to the Birmingham QE for a second opinion

I couldn't believe just how bad mine and other people's treatment was.

I was spoken down to and almost belittled by consultants who didn't take one bit of notice of what I was saying.

I was seen by numerous consultants who couldn't be bothered to read my notes or listen to what i was saying to them.

I got the impression that because I was in my 60's that I didn't know what I was talking about when describing my symptoms and that all they wanted to do was to find me a bed somewhere, didn't matter where, and to get me home asap. I was admitted through A&E and sent to numerous unsuitable wards including Trauma and Orthopaedics because they were (I guess) struggling to find me a bed. One Consultant told me that my problem with my pancreas would heal itself in 7 days. When told them that the problem had been ongoing since April 2015 and asked when would the 7 days healing process actually begin and end just said nothing except I want you to go home tomorrow! I managed to stay for a couple of extra days then gave in because I wasn't receiving satisfactory treatment. I was losing weight, not eating and in pain. I went home for 2 weeks then was readmitted to Worcester via Ambulance with flashing lights and sirens! Straight through A&E and back into the hands of condescending consultants...onto SCDU and actually ended up in HDU for almost a week within hours of my arrival (obviously extremely ill) then onto Beech 1.

After constantly questioning consultants about my treatment (by concerned relatives) and receiving no satisfactory answers, two of my relatives went through my GP and arranged for an urgent second opinion from Birmingham QE. (at that time the Doctors at Worcester were on the verge of sending me home again for a second time)

Hospital Transport was eventually arranged, after constant reminders from relatives and me to Doctors, Nurses and Consultants about my appointment at the QE.

When attending my "outpatient" appointment for the second opinion, and while still being an "inpatient" at Worcester, the consultant at the QE took one look at me and said you are extremely ill and we have a duty of care towards you, you will not return to Worcester Hospital we have to find you a bed here as soon as possible!

I stayed in Worcester Hospital for around 10 days, the first time I was admitted, and I saw several people being virtually ejected from their beds before receiving satisfactory treatment and being sent home still very ill because they were struggling to find beds for new patients.

I will not be recommending Worcester Hospital to anyone I know!

Nurses, Health Care Assistants and Housekeepers at Worcester Hospital were very caring, smiling and helpful and for that reason only Worcester receives one very lonely star from me!!!

Once I'm feeling better I will be placing an official complaint through PALS

Thank you for taking the time to feedback to us. I am so sorry to read of your experience and treatment with us at Worcester Royal, it is very disappointing; no patient should be treated this way. I would like to reassure you that we take seriously any issues our patients and families raise with us and would like to thank you for bringing this to our attention.

You can contact our Patient Services Department on 0300 123 1732 or email patientservices.dept@worcsacute.nhs.uk when you are ready and we can arrange for you to speak to a senior member of staff or investigate this further for you.

Best Wishes
