"Upsetting colposcopy and Substandard Consultation"

About: Royal Lancaster Infirmary

I recently attended RLI for colposcopy after an abnormal smear. I was left traumatised by the examination and consultation. The gynaecologist ridiculed me when I mentioned something relating to my medical history.

I had been sent a leaflet on the procedure but had expected them to go through the procedure but they didn't. The nurses seemed unable to position me properly and I was uncomfortable throughout the test. The doctor did not talk / tell me what they were doing. They knew I had a medical problem which might cause me pain and at one point I experienced a terrible pain but they just blamed me. They didn't stop, didn't apologise and the nurses didn't check if I was ok. They told me that they hadn't seen anything that they were particularly concerned about but then said they hadn't been able to examine what they needed to, so I will have to return in 6 months for another colposcopy. So they had been unable to confirm the grade of the smear result. So I've been left worrying about how bad my abnormal cells. really are and how bad they will get in 6 months time. Also they said that as i've refused adrenaline for a future local anaesthetic ( I have had 2 adverse reactions to this drug) I will have to have an a GA if I need treatment.. I said no I should be offered an epidural. I will be reporting this appalling consultation to the NHS Screening programme. I will not attend the colposcopy clinc for follow up.
