"Timing a bit off"

About: King's Mill Hospital

I was asked to come in on the 14th December to ward 31 at 10am for an afternoon operation, I arrived a little earlier and was asked to wait in the day room as my bed wasn't ready, fair enough I thought I was a little earlier than 10am, as the morning went on the nurses did walk past and tell me they were just getting my bed ready this happened quite a lot, a nurse came in mid morning and took all my details, and someone else took my bloods and yet again someone else came in to take swabs that had to be taken in the toilets as that was a bit more private, it was a big op and I was very anxious at this point and still didn't have my bed, by afternoon after spending nearly 4 hours in the day room I was told I would be going down for my op, the surgeon and their team popped in to discuss the op with me, all of this was done in the day room, with 5 minutes to go my bed was finally ready after being told since 9.30am they were just making it, I was quickly rushed in to my gown and surgical socks at 2.15pm then taken for my op, I'm not really sure why I was asked to come in at 10am with the letter stating I may lose my operation slot if I was late to get there and not even have a bed ready, that day made my experience not very pleasant, I will say the nurses aftercare was very nice, and I was cared for well.

Dear reviewer,

Thank you for your comments, and for taking the time to post your review.

We are really pleased to hear how well you were recently cared for by our staff after your procedure, and your comments have been shared with the staff involved in your care

There are medical and practical reasons why you would be required to attend your day surgery at a specific time. Your explanations on the day, however, may not have been satisfactory. If you would like us to investigate your concerns over waiting prior to your procedure, then please email our Patient Experience Team on PET@sfh-tr.nhs.uk.

Kind regards,

Sherwood Forest Hospitals.
