"Colonoscopy"

About: Queen Alexandra Hospital

My husband was taken to QA for a colonoscopy, I don't know why as his previous treatment was at Southampton General.

I did mention this to the GP before the appointment but they seemed to think it was okay. He was in considerable pain, I was not able to give him the enema, again I called the GP to ask if there was a nurse who could do this procedure. I was told no. Predictably it was not possible to do the colonoscopy, the nurse rather stupidly sneered at my inability to give the enema. I am an accountant/archeologist, not a nurse. I did manage the one before the endoscopy but he wasn't in pain then. I was asked for the results of the previous scans, I didn't know, again the sneer, I suggested that it would be on the computer & wasn't it a good idea to read a patients notes. I was told it was a different trust. I thought we had a National Health Service, surely it shouldn't be hard to pass information to a hospital in the same county. An ambulance had picked up my husband & carried him downstairs, reversing the procedure to get him home, for what!
