"I knew my life was in great hands"

About: Ninewells Hospital / Acute Medical Unit (AMU) Ninewells Hospital / General Medicine

(as the patient),

I was unlucky at the age of 28 to have a stroke while I was in hospital I was under ward 14 as it was the hoilday season ones they knew what had happened to me, ( ward 14 staff where also amazing with me in every way ). I was taken to ward 33 to a side room due to being young and also very ill at the time. Being on ward 33 and having all the staff dedicated to stroke ward makes a great difference to being stock anywhere, I also like say a big thank you to the team you r all so happy, know what u r talking about, have a great sense of humour. I new my life was in great hands. Last thing is the coffee machine on the wards great for patients l, if you can not sleep during night you can make your self a drink with out bothering staff, it also in my eyes money worth spending by the team, I my self am going try raise some funds to continue the coffee machine for the ward. Thank you again to all staff.

Dear Alain1987,

Many thanks for your kind words about your care on the AMU (14) and also the acute stroke unit. I will be sure to share this with the teams in both areas. We can fully appreciate the distress and anxiety around being admitted to hospital with ill health at any age and we strive to be sure that we do whatever we can to make that experience as positive as it can be in the circumstances.

Best wishes

Nicola

Dear Alain 1987

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback on Patient Opinion. I will certainly ensure the stroke team are made aware of your kind words. The team work hard to ensure that patients’ emotional and physical care is taken care of following an event such as a stroke and I am glad to hear you felt this supported you in your recovery. I am also pleased to hear that you benefited from the hot drinks machine in the ward. The ward recently purchased this with funds donated to them, following feedback from patients and visitors that the ward could be improved by the availability of such a machine.

Thank you again for your comments and I hope you continue to make a good recovery following your stroke.

Kind regards.

Rachel Haddock

Head of Nursing
