"Blue badge spaces"

About: Royal Free Hospital / Trauma and orthopaedics

(as the patient),

I had an appointment in mid December at the foot clinic at 9am - I was a bit early and parked in a blue badge space outside the entrance. My blue badge was clearly displayed and I left about 90 minutes later - imagine my surprise when I received a £60 fine in the post - I had only just got back from a trip abroad so I paid it yesterday to avoid a charge of £100 - I have appealed but I am contacting you as well to express my dismay at this treatment - incidentally there were two photographs of my car in the demand but not of my windscreen which would have shown a clearly displayed blue badge

Hi Robert Kilgour,

Thanks for getting in touch and sorry to hear you're unhappy. Blue badge holders must register their badge on arrival at the Royal Free Hospital, at either the Pond Street reception or security reception (adjacent to A&E), to receive four hours free hospital parking. The signs in our car park do state this, as does our website (see link below). It is a one-off registration and you do not need to re-register upon future visits to the same hospital. I'm very sorry that you missed the signs on this occasion and I will speak to our parking team so that they can double check that our signage is clear.

I understand from your comment that you have appealed your fine - please do call or email our patient advice and liaison service as they may be able to help you with this: 020 7472 6446020 7472 6446 or 020 7472 6447020 7472 6447, rf.pals@nhs.net.

Information on disabled parking at our hospitals: https://www.royalfree.nhs.uk/contact-us/parking-at-our-hospitals/disabled-parking/

Kind regards

Rachel

Update posted by Robert Kilgour (the patient)

I understand there is signage but I was not looking for it - I saw an blue badge space and parked in it - obviously if there was something in the blue badge space pointing out I needed to read the signage before parking I would have read it - regards -
