"Excellent Department But Some Issues"

About: Royal Bolton Hospital

I appreciate this is an extremely busy department in Bolton, but more often than not appointments run extremely late regardless of the time of day you attend. I have personally been late in for appointments for first appointment of the day and for appointments in the afternoon. It is not exactly the best place to wait for appointments, the WRVS shop is not open most of the time, and there is no coffee machine or water dispenser.

However, the clinic, and staff are helpful and always friendly. I have only experienced one bad Dr in the clinic and I believe they were a locum; the doctor was extremely rude and patronising. The majority of the staff are fantastic, friendly, welcoming and patient.

It is disappointing to receive the feedback regarding the attitude of the locum doctor referred to, especially as you feel that the majority of the staff are helpful and polite.

Please would you call Matthew Wainman, Operational Business Manager, Head & Neck on 01204 390060 to provide further details so that this can be looked into further.

In relation to your comments regarding lateness of appointments, it is not always possible to keep to the allocated appointment time due to the unpredictable nature of the length of time needed for each patient, however once again if you provide more details regarding the date of the delay as the first patient in clinic we will investigate this further.

Finally, we note your comments regarding the provision of refreshments.

The WRVS facility is a voluntary service and we as a Trust do not have any control over the opening hours. However, there are provisions on the 2nd floor of the eye unit to obtain water if requested and there are cafeterias, shops, and restaurants on the main spine of the hospital site. Nonetheless we appreciate that people may want to find a drink nearer to the waiting areas in the Eye Unit and this is something we will look into.
