"Day surgery (gall bladder removal)"

About: Queen Alexandra Hospital

From when I was admitted to the day surgery unit right through to my waking up after my operation, every person I came into contact with was helpful, caring and kind. The procedures were explained clearly to me by the nurses, the aneathetists and the surgeon. I arrived as requested at noon and after pre Op paperwork and preparation I walked to theatre at about 2.30pm, feeling calm. The only problem I encountered was being left to put on the knee length compression socks myself. When I have had surgery before a nurse has done this. Because I did it myself I did not get them on correctly.. they are very difficult to put on, especially when you are feeling worried about the operation.

When I woke up I needed to be taken to a ward as I was not well enough to be discharged that day. The two recovery nurses who accompanied me were really lovely, taking he time to settle me in my bed and make sure I was comfy, with everything I needed to hand.

I had considered paying to have my surgery done privately but can say without at hesitation that I could not have been better cared for if I had. a five star service from start to finish!

I was in ward E2 over night, where everyone was helpful and friendly and caring .I received a very useful package of discharge information .
