"Ex nurse disgusted with treatment at Northern General"

About: Northern General Hospital

(as the patient),

I cannot think of anything good about my treatment at the Northern General in May.

I am a 63 year old female that under went a local anaesthetic for removal of cancerous skin. the consultant, theatre staff and receptionist were very nice. I had the operation on the 1st of May and had to be re-admitted by the 6th with cellulites.

On admission to Huntsman 4, I was disgusted with the state of the waiting area, there was crisp packets, tissues and other debris strewn all over the floor.

Once given a bed, I waited 6 hours for someone to admit me, my dressing was removed left on the bed side table and a clean one put to the side of it. The staff nurse said she would be back as soon as she could, when she didn't return I put it on myself.

I worked as an auxiliary nurse at the NGH and retired 8 years ago, if that is the way the NHS is going now, I'm glad I was there when we were proud to be nursing.

Nevertheless I would like to say that the staff at Sorby 2 were very caring and nice, polite, nothing was too much trouble for them.
