About: Royal Derby Hospital

I arrived for scheduled surgery on 29.12.15.I was very anxious as I had had previous bad experiences in the hospital in 2006.I arrived at ward 209 reception and was greeted in a polite and professional manner which already started to help me feel more at ease.I was taken down to waiting list area and there I met my consultant who explained the whole procedure and addressed any concerns.I felt calm and confident placing my care into their hands.I met the anaesthetic who listened with great empathy to why I had such anxieties about the hospital ward and reassured me that the staff and nurses would be horrified to hear that a patient had such care in the past.Again I felt I could put my faith and trust in the staff and I did. Staff in the waiting list area pre operative were kind and caring. Both myself and my husband enjoyed them checking in on us over the course of the 2hour wait while the surgical teams completed the surgeries before us. The kind porter then walked with me down to surgery reception where the team were waiting.I was collected from there by another happy jovial face who eased my anxieties into surgery and asleep before I knew it and woke up warm ,cozy and pain free with yet another kind and caring face at my side, their gentle smile and kindness is remembered.I was wheeled to the ward by the same porter and although I can remember no names from my first night on the ward I remember both of the nurses faces who came in often checking on my monitors and blood pressure.Asking me how I felt and asking about pain levels.my catheter had a leak during this first night and as soon as I pressed for assistance the nurse came straight away and I was dry and comfortable and sorted in no time at all.The nurses looked after both my care and my dignity when I could not do it for myself.A big Thank you to these nurses who looked after me.My day shift nurses I remember well. All the staff on ward 209 were kind ,caring and at all times from the person who brought us our tea and meals with a ready smile. My consultant came and saw me again which was lovely and said I could go home that day if my bloods were good and the nurses felt me capable. The two nurses who cared for me the most were lovely although there were many other kind and helpful faces involved in my care.I have only praise for all of the staff.I was always helped and encouraged to be independent but was confident that nurses were close at hand should I have required assistance.Although the ward was busy and there were many patients at no time did I feel that my care was left wanting.I was comfortable, warm, pain free and able to move myself around safely in no time at all.Thank you so much to all the staff of ward 209 for not only restoring my faith in the Royal Derby but for making a frightened patient feel safe and cared for in everyway.
