"Out of hours GP provision"

About: Glenrothes Hospital

(as the patient),

I had to call NHS 24 at 1am in urgent need of treatment for and acute attack of haematuria which was extremely painful. I live a 5 minute walk away from my very large local hospital and was amazed to learn that the out of hours service there terminated at midnight. It was necessary for me to drive aprox 8 miles to the nearest centre at Glenrothes Hospital. It only took a short while to drive to Glenrothes but there was no mention of Glenrothes Hospital on any of the signs on my approach into Glenrothes. Fortunately I knew roughly where the hospital was only because I had a friend who lived near the hospital. However for anyone else driving in the dark, in pain and in unfamiliar territory, it would be very stressful. The treatment I received was first class but would urge the local health board to make sure that if Glenrothes Hospital is offering such a vital service that it should be clearly signposted.

Dear Silvana

I did receive an initial response from our Head of Estates who advised that signage sits within the remit of Fife Council. I have forwarded your comments on to make sure they can be considered.

Regards

Louise
