"wrong diagnosis, terrible food, revealing..."

About: Derriford Hospital

I didn't want to go here, but was very ill and dysphasic so couldn't explain this properly to my friend, or what was wrong, so even though after my previous stay 5 years ago I had made it clear that I did not want to go here again, here is where I ended up.

What I had was a bad migraine, but I ended up with the same idiotic diagnosis as the previous time I was admitted here.

When I contested this, the doctor offered to test it by giving me a medication which I had on prescription, and then carry out further tests to see how it affected me.

This was an ideal opportunity to find out once and for all whether the doctor was right or wrong.

The doctor said they would arrange it.

I waited, and waited, and waited...then the nurse arrived - with my discharge papers!

No test after all.

That is about 8 years now that this wrong diagnosis has haunted me, yet has never been properly tested.

Not all the doctors were bad - one was great - but the doctor covered a different specialism.

I stayed in Tavy Ward - the assessment ward - so cannot vouch for the catering in other wards, but I would warn any other vegans to stay away from Tavy Ward until the caterer learns that there are vegan meals other than an unrecognisable curried orange mush with too much rice, and that there are breakfasts other than gluten, other grains and sugar for breakfast.

Either that or have food brought in!

The nightdresses are better than before, but still have a slit up the back!

Make sure you have clean underwear...

A civilised change: towels, flannels, soap and shampoo are now supplied.

But one of the showers was too cold, and the other only just warm enough, and the showerhead came off if you turned it on full.

The nurses were mostly heroic - working flat out - doing twice as much as they were paid for.
