"Patients have no voice"

Patients are not heard. Their views are simply dismissed and Doctors refuse to discuss further.

The care plan is a joke.

Appointments are cancelled without notice and should the patient dare complain they are told their moods are unstable and this could be a sign of deterioration in their mental health and threats of increased medication.

Not all patients are treated equally and staff lie and threaten patients then deny it happened.

I speak to my relative every day and the way they are treated is appalling. They are spoken to like children and if they disagree they are told they have something seriously wrong with them.

My relative is threatened with never being discharged unless a confession regarding mental health is acknowledged despite any progress made they have to confess to a condition which is life long.

Every patient has a voice and whether it's an objection or disagreement of both diagnosis and medication they should be allowed to voice their view without fear of increased mess or not fit for discharge !!

Roseberry Park Hospital is a large site which provides care for people in a number of different mental health specialties these include, Adult Mental Health, Forensic Learning Disabilities, Forensic Adult Mental Health and Mental Health Services for Older People. We aim to demonstrate excellence in all of our care to improve outcomes and experiences for users of our services, their carers’ and families.

We are sorry to hear that this has not been your experience within Roseberry Park Hospital and that the care provided to your relative and yourself has not been collaborative and responsive to the views of yourself and your relative .

Each ward has a Ward Manager and each service area has a Modern Matron who would welcome a meeting with you to listen to your experiences and improve the care your relative is receiving. Tees Esk and Wear Valleys NHS Foundation Trust also provide accommodation to an independent advocacy service called STAMP which is based within Roseberry Park Hospital who will support and represent service users and their carers’ in meetings ensuring the service user voice is always heard. Should you wish to discuss your concerns further please contact Corinne Aspel Senior Nurse Patient and Carer Experience on 0191 3333566 or by e mail corinne.aspel@nhs.net.
