"Endoscopy department was clean, ..."

About: Croydon University Hospital

(as the patient),

What I liked

Endoscopy department was clean, well equipped and well looked after. Staff were very kind. No problem or complaint with the procedure (colonoscopy at all).

What could be improved

Every aspect of my treatment other than the procedure itself has been horrible. To begin with, I had to pay privately to see the consultant as the wait was so long and I was in a lot of pain. Then, since I couldn't afford to pay for the procedure, there was a two month wait. I had an outpatients appointment that I'd waited months for and when the day came they were running an hour late and I was just 'got rid of' in less than 5 minutes by a junior member of the team who had no knowledge of, or access to, my case, symptoms or test results. I was made to feel like an inconvenience despite being in considerable pain and discomfort.

Anything else?

The actual treatment at the Mayday has always been good - I had two ultrasound scans as well as the colonoscopy and each time was a good experience. My wife has been into A&E twice with serious conditions and was treated well.

However, outpatients and the general administration is a disaster. Waiting times for appointments and procedures are shocking, an absolute disgrace. The Mayday is clearly overstretched and under-resourced to an alarming degree.
