"My Amazing Hysterectomy For Cancer"

About: St John's Hospital / Gynaecology

(as the patient),

What a difference this time! !

I had the devastating news that I had cancer after a series of tests and a scan at St John Hospital. The care could not have been better.

My consultant, Dr Mills is a young guy but truly fantastic. I never met a Dr I trusted more. I was given a rapid appointment, his secretary even called me to arrange that, he saw me within only a few days of being referred to him. He took all my details and scans to the cancer Multi-Disciplinary Team Meeting and then he met with us immediately after the meeting. We had no clinic appointment but I was was in such a state he had called and arranged for me & my husband to see him after this meeting. He explained what had been decided and what the best course of treatment was. It meant surgery then chemo. This was so different to the experience I had at the Royal Infirmary where I'd seen an indifferent, uninterested and rude Gynaecologist for a different issue previously.

At all points both Dr Mills and the nurse at St Johns (I think she specialised in cancer too) were fantastic. They explained things in easy to understand language. I then then had an operation by keyhole surgery before referring me for chemo-therapy. It was amazing I have three tiny scars and was out of hospital in 24 hrs with nothing needed but some paracetamol. We couldn't believe it as a friend who had a similar operation by open surgery took a long time to recover and had a lot of pain. I had almost no pain. The chemo went well too, albeit the side effects were tough.

To be honest the care from Dr Mills & the team at St John's was simply fantastic but the level of compassion and understanding shown was also incredible. They really helped me through a very difficult time, did amazing surgery and I have not looked back. But more than that, he and his team went the extra mile in every way. This was a while ago now and I wanted to take the time to make this public thank you. We really cannot thank the team at St Johns enough.

Dear Satisfied of West Lothian

I wanted to say thank you so much for your lovely feedback following your experiences at St Johns. The last few months have clearly been a difficult time for you and your family but l am pleased to hear how Dr Mills and the specialist nurse have helped and supported through this time - it sounds as though they have both been stars!

I have passed on your feedback to Dr Mills and the rest of the team at St John's who I am sure will be delighted to read this feedback and we wish you well for your continued recovery.

Kind regards

Jeannette Morrison
