"Amazing in an emergency"

About: St Peter's Hospital (Chertsey)

My son, age 9, was sent from Weybridge walk in centre with severe abdominal pain.

From the moment we walked through the doors and spoke to a receptionist, I felt that he would be given the best care - I was right!

We were ushered almost immediately into triage then into a cubicle and seen by a paediatric specialist. He was prepped for emergency surgery to have his appendix removed. He had the surgery less than 2 hours from us walking through the door.

Each and every person we saw that day was friendly, knowledgeable and professional.

They spoke directly to my son about his care, something that happened throughout his stay.

I'm sorry to say that I am struggling to remember the names of these wonderful people.

The consultant surgeon the doctor who introduced themselves to my son performed the operation.

There was another junior doctor who had a very in depth conversation with my son about Arsenal!

What was an extremely stressful situation for me was made better by the exceptional care given by these extraordinary professionals.

No question went unanswered and no request ignored.

The operation went well and the doctor came to see me before I went with a nurse to collect Jack from recovery.

The doctor came to see him 3 more times on the ward, either before or after their shift.

The doctor even changed his dressing when he had some questions about it.

Amazing doctor.

The staff on Ash ward were equally amazing.

At no point was Jack (or I) treated like a number.

It truly felt like he was the only patient there! From getting him a wheelchair so he could visit the playroom ( the canula in his foot was making it difficult to walk) to extra ice cream because his throat hurt, nothing was too much trouble.

I am in awe of every single person we came in contact with over the four days we were there. From smiles, reassuring words, excellent medical treatment, and of course ice cream! Jack and I can't thank them enough.

Dear Sandi,

Thank you for your wonderful feedback about our Paediatric A&E, surgical and Ash Ward staff, which we have shared with them. We are so pleased to hear that you felt your son was well cared for and looked after. We hope he has made a good recovery. Many thanks.
