"Physiotherapy Department"

My mobility was suddenly badly affected. I walked four and a half miles a day, 9 miles during the light days and suddenly could hardly walk at all. I attended Physiotherapy for 8 months and it was put down to wear and tear in the lower back and pressure on the sciatic nerve. I had 3 pages of exercises, spent over £200 on a Sports Masseuse (after taking advice from the physio at that time) and had a course of acupuncture at Airdrie Physio Dept - all to no avail and I got worse and despaired of ever being able to walk normally again. Eventually the physiotherapist decided to email her boss to ask if he could have a look to see if there was something they were missing.

A member of staff interviewed me and right away decided I had not one but two conditions.

The physio put me down for a nerve and touch test the next time they saw me.

The nerve test was fine, but during the touch test I really jumped when the member of staff touched a certain area. Right away the physio said I think I know what that is, explained it and said there is something we can do.

That was on the Monday at Airdrie and on the Friday morning at 8am in Cumbernauld Health Centre Mr Murray administered an injection for a Trocuanteric Bursitis. Almost immediately as I walked out that Health Centre my mobility was returning back to normal. Not only that but he gave me sound advice on how to take it easy and wean myself in to walking again.

Also, he advised me on how to manage the lower back pain when it comes on and this and the exercises he gave me have been invaluable and I use them not only when I feel the pain/ache but to ensure I don't get it I. e. standing in queues, gardening, making beds etc. He is a first class physiotherapist and I can't thank him enough. His expertise, together with his personality, enables you to understand what he is explaining and why it would help. He is an excellent ambassador for the Physiotherapy Department and I sincerely hope he receives the recognition he deserves.
