"Poor Receptionist for First Contact"

About: Southmead Hospital

What kind of a hospital receptionist does not know the wards or departments in the hospital they work for?

A poor one.

As a first point of contact for distressed relatives trying to check on family this person should be knowledgeable and friendly.

I phoned twice to get information on a relative send for a procedure from another hospital and both times the receptionist hung up on me.

Both times they were only just not rude.

I just hope the medical staff are better trained and better at their jobs.

Dear Anonymous – I am sorry you encountered problems when you tried to contact Southmead to enquire after your relative. I was surprised to learn that any staff member would deliberately terminate a telephone call and I am sorry that this was your experience.

I hope that you were able to find the information you were seeking and that your relative is making good progress. Your comments will be fed back to the Plastic Surgery Team.
