"Waiting time for hip replacement at Watford General Hospital"

About: St Albans City Hospital / Trauma and orthopaedics Watford General Hospital / Trauma and orthopaedics

(as the patient),

I was referred to my surgeon at the beginning of June who told me I needed a hip replacement urgently. In fact I was given an appointment at St Albans Hospital for July, but after my pre-op assessment was informed that I would have to go to Watford. This was done by a phone call, with no real explanation as to why, only that I was a risk for anaesthetic and would have to go to Watford.

It has now been 32 weeks since I applied for choose and book. I have been to my GP for extra pain relief. I am now sleeping on the sofa as I cannot climb stairs, in fact I can barely walk! I have written to the surgeon to explain my predicament and as yet not received a reply.

I have now contacted PALS. I still have nothing in writing - but various phone calls refer to treatment I have been having every 4 weeks for the last 8 years for my cancer, which has nothing to do with my hip! !

I am told that until I get something in writing I cannot go to the NHS Ombudsman. I am at my wits end! I thought I had to be treated in 18 weeks! 32 weeks in pain is ridiculous.
