"Lack of compassion, lack of pain relief."

About: Princess Royal University Hospital (Orpington)

My wife and I had a bad experience here with the birth of our 2nd child.

We felt we were badly advised and essentially denied access to an epidural. This resulted in an horrific delivery and ruined what should have been a happy occasion.

Subsequently, after being moved to the maternity ward, we were left waiting for more than 4 hours after asking to see a doctor.

Finally, after raising a complaint there has been absolutely no follow up.

The southern cross debacle does not surprise me...NHS seems to have a culture of absolute paranoia where detailed note taking (no doubt to ensure a sturdy defence against potential litigation) takes precedent over patient care.

Our first was born in Australia via the midwives (I. E. not private) and unfortunately the comparison leaves the NHS looking completely inept.

And it's not all about funding...the issue here was a lack of professionalism, compassion and service.

Will not be referring this hospital.
