My 85 year old grandma had visited as an outpatient with a rare condition 'bullous pempeigoid'.
This flared up and accompanied by cellulitis, resulted in her being admitted to qmc.
She has spent 31 days as an inpatient and not one dermatologist has seen her! We've had a call to say come and say your goodbyes - turns out that she was so dehydrated from the blisters bursting, her kidneys were failing. A central line was to be inserted in theatre, but they decided against this method as the risk of infection was so high (because her skin is so bad)
She has finally been transferred in the middle of the night to Leicester, so she can be seen by a dermatologist? (Which coincidently there were several within a 5 minute walk from her hospital bed- but red tape prevented them seeing her)
She did have an outpatient appointment last week, so they kept her in a bed until this date arrived. Her skin was so bad that they couldn't transfer her into a wheelchair to take her the 5 minute walk to them.
They said that she needed to be clothed and in a chair or they would not see her!
It also turned out that porters weren't insured to travel between the 2 buildings!
I will be taking this all the way so nobody has to suffer this again.
You are not providing care.
I am totally disgusted
"If you get bad and become an inpatient- they..."
