"ENT clinic keep cancelling my autistic child..."

About: Leicester Royal Infirmary

We been waiting almost 14 month in total, we seen the doctors few times and signed the paper work to remove little boy tonsils. every time we wait 3 to 4 month to the next appointment but the ent clinic calling us the day before the operation telling us your child appointment is cancelled, while the tonsils made my son live hard very little amount of eating snoring vomots sleeping problem.

it's the worst clinic department service in the all uk I ever seen cancelling you appointment as their wish and some time they don't even call you to let you know , the last time I took one week off from work we had the appointment Friday morning at 7am but ENT called us at late evening at Thursday telling us we have bed problem no space Now I am really upset with this department. my son is autistic he need help, he can't eat, they are swelling really big. he had so many absences from school because of them. I hope the NHS put some new good staffs who respect their position and others come to see them .

Dear L rasol,

Thanks for taking the time to post your comment.

I am very sorry that we have had to cancel your son’s operation on more than one occasion. Ordinarily I would look into this for you with the aim of providing a new date for surgery; however, we have had to take the difficult decision to cancel all planned children's surgery so we can support our paediatric colleagues who are treating/caring for the high volume of clinically urgent children who are being admitted to our Children's Hospital.

This means it is very unlikely that I will be able to arrange a date for your son's surgery this side of Christmas.

We do have some level of certainty that from January 2016 the situation will improve and we are therefore working with our paediatric colleagues to increase the number of operations planned for January and February 2016.

This is why my waiting list team have let you know that the operation is likely to be in the New Year, although at the moment we are unable to confirm dates.

If you do wish to discuss this further, please send through your son’s details with your contact details to me on Angharad.rastrick@uhl-tr.nhs.uk and I will give you a call.

My apologies once again.
