"Professionalism and Dignity"

About: Heartlands Hospital / General surgery

(as the patient),

From the moment I was diagnosed right through to the operation itself, I was treated with professionalism and dignity to the highest level.

I was kept informed about procedures as they were developing so that I could understand without getting stressed out. Nothing was forced on me, I was given choices, but my choice was to put my life in the hands of these wonderful unsung hero's who have allowed me to now sit at my computer and write this wee story.

This all took place in a short time scale some 3 weeks, then in December 2015 I had the operation to remove about 12 inches of my colon. I can't thank these wonderful people enough especially to Mr Karandikar and Mr Macarthur. I was told due to my high BMI by Mr Karandikar, that I am not the slimmest of men and the operation would be challenging, however with the help of Mr Macarthur I would have 2 brains and 4 hands working on me.

The nurses on the wards were tremendous, expert work done here especially Christine the Colorectal Nurse who has been by my side throughout what a lovely lady. I know its early days and the biopsy report is not in yet, but I am so pleased with everything so far.

Dear Gordy91

thank you so much for taking the time to provide your feedback as a patient under our colorectal surgical team at Heartlands Hospital.

I will be delighted to share your comments with Mr Karandikar and Mr MacArthur, as well as Christine our Colorectal Clinical Nurse Specialist who will be thrilled to read your feedback and share this with their colleagues.

I do hope this is acceptable and may I extend my best wishes to you for your continued recovery from your surgery, and thank you once again for providing your comments and feedback, it is extremely important to us.

Kindest regards

Since my last post Mr. Karandakar has called me to inform me that the biopsy shows that the cancer was at an early stage with no spreading...this has been the best Christmas present I have ever had...so once again thanks to everyone who cared for me at the Heartlands Hospital...I wish you all a Happy New Year.....Gordon McCurley.
