"The longest waiting time for Hernia op ever."

About: Dewsbury & District Hospital

Don't be fooled by the quick initial out patient appointment you may get for this hospital. I had a choice of St James 68 days, Bradford St Lukes 48 days, Otley 42 and Dewsbury 18 days.

So thinking I would get in quicker we went for Dewsbury.

At the out patient appointment I was put on the waiting list for surgery and sent for the pre-op assessment same day.

No one available in pre-op having walked across the hospital they also told me it would be up to 18 weeks wait.

Went back to see consultant as it was urgent as I was not working and not entitled to sick pay and my GP had sent a letter.

Consultant said letter meant nothing and that it was only maybe up to 18 weeks, offered no advice to allow me to work.

Made an appointment for the following week for pre-op and asked to be put on cancellation list.

Was then added to the waiting list.

After 3 phone calls being told they could not tell me when I would get an appointment or where I was on the waiting list they eventually said it would be 18 weeks and would be or should be in by 7th December 2015.

Having only gone here to get seen sooner as the reports on this hospital are terrible went back to GP and went to Yorkshire Clinic who gave very different advice and have had my procedure done and am due to go back to work on 15th December.

Consultant gave no advice and appeared uninterested and the systems don't work . Why have a pre-op 18 weeks before your procedure totally pointless.

Getting information is like getting blood out of a stone.

I wasted 2 months messing around to find I should have gone elsewhere to get better and quicker service.

Poor information, lack of information thank goodness I did not have to go in this hospital!

We would be pleased to arrange for this matter to be investigated if the patient would like to contact us directly. The 18 week pathway is appropriate for surgery that has been assessed as being clinicall routine, however.
