"Mum's stay in Britford Ward"

About: Salisbury District Hospital

When we arrived Thursday night and given the prognosis for my mother Ann Jarvie, my father and I were terribly upset. Mum's existing MS condition would likely compromise any acute surgery. We would have to make a choice. We had to be prepared for the worst and a sleepless night later we returned to Mum's side. I drifted in to the ward on my own with my father (88 years) waiting quietly in Spring's restaurant. The ward staff very sympathetically allowed me to stay after I explained how helpful it would be with Mum's newly diagnosed dementia. I particularly remember the kind words of one health assistant.

Every request was responded to, and very often anticipated and made to happen to make Mum comfortable. The surgeon came by 10 am and relieved our anxieties a little. It may not be as worse as first thought.

From then on, the junior and senior doctors really did make us feel looked after! And a smile from the doctor made me feel ten times better - they should bottle it and prescribe it!

I had so many worries about Mum coming in to hospital as her experience in Nevill Hall Hospital in Abergavenny, when she broke her femur and collar bone falling out of her wheelchair, was a great deal worse and her convalescence began very badly.

Thanks again to all of you. You really are a superb customer-centric team, caring and professional, and I should hope you're all recognised as one of the best in the South region.

So very well done to all of you. I hope you all stay well, happy and look after yourselves as I don't know what we'd do with out people like you.

What a wonderful team you are!
