"I had surgery for breast cancer ..."

About: Darent Valley Hospital

(as the patient),

What I liked

I had surgery for breast cancer in July and I'd like to express my thanks to everyone on the Breastcare Team. The nurses have been incredibly supportive and helpful and my consultant explained my results and proposed treatment clearly. I was also well-cared for on Redwood ward when I had to be re-admitted for a wound-site infection.

What could be improved

The only member of staff who was unhelpful was a receptionist on the main Outpatients desk when I was attending for an appointment with my consultant. Their attitude was brusque and dismissive when I asked about waiting times. I didn't take it further at the time as I didn't want to add to my stress levels and the rest of the staff more than made up for this one "glitch".

Thank you for your positive comments regarding our Breastcare and Redwood teams. It is good to hear such glowing reports and I have shared your comments with all of the staff involved.

I am sorry to see that your experience in the main outpatient department was a little disappointing. I have informed the Outpatient Services Manager of your comments and she is going to remind the receptionists of the importance of a positive and helpful attitude at all times.
