"Caring and courteous"

About: Chesterfield Royal Hospital

Today at 10:10hrs I dropped off my 86 year old father at the Eye Centre for his annual diabetic eye check. My mother had an appoitnment in the X-ray department at 10:40hrs so I felt I could not really wait with him. Dad stated that he would be happy to walk to the main reception at the front of the hospital and wait for us there when he had finished in the clinic. The receptionist was very considerate and asked if I thought he would be ok to do this (he usually walks a mile each day so I said that he should). Dad met us later in the main foyer and stated that a nurse had kindly taken him up in a lift and walked part way with him through the hospital so that he knew where he was going and did not have to walk outside in the cold and wet.

Thank you for going the extra mile. It was very much appreciated.

Thank you for sharing your experiences with us.

A logistical challenge getting both parents to hospital for their appointments at practically the same time.

I'm sure it must have been stressful for you, so it's good to read that your father was given a little extra help to get back to you at the main reception (and without having to face the elements).

I make sure all the staff see these posts and it's good to know that our proud to care values are appreciated and acknowledged.

With best wishes Sarah Turner-Saint, Head of Communications
