I was referred to Anne's More Than Words speech therapy course for parents that have children with language and communication difficulty. Anne ran the course at Hairmyres hospital this course is amazing at helping families. My 3 year old wouldn't talk and daily life was difficult as he wouldn't tell you if he was hungry, tired or even if he was hurt, everything was a squeal. Anne has taught me ways to help my son and he is communicating a lot better.

When I started he would point or grunt and yesterday he said to his sister " upstairs ..., please" his speech is still limited, but with the skills Anne has taught us I'm confident he will progress nicely.

This course is so important to families like mine, without Anne's hard work, time and patience so many families would be struggling. This course isn't just about speech therapy, it's a way for families to communicate and in my opinion a lifeline. If there was more people like Anne doing these courses, so many more families would benefit. She has given me and my family so much help by giving us her time and teaching me valuable life skills. Thank you to Anne, you have changed our lives for the better.

Thank you so much for posting your comments about the” More Than Words” Course and the impact Anne has had on your family. We love to hear that parents have found that working with our team has made a difference in supporting their child’s communication skills.

You are so right when you say that” it isn’t just Speech Therapy” as people often think that our work is about directly working with a child but as you’ve discovered working with families and others around the child can really help to support communication development. Working together can often show the greatest progress for our children and young people.

Anne is one of a number of therapists within our team who offer More Than Words and other parent programmes across Lanarkshire and it is so nice to hear that these groups are valued. Anne will also be delighted that you have found her support helpful and I will be passing on your comments. You will also be pleased to hear that we are training a number of staff early next year to run the MTW Programme.
