"Occupational therapy for rheumatoid arthritis"

About: Lanarkshire Community Services / Occupational Therapy University Hospital Hairmyres / Rheumatology

(as the patient),

I was referred by my rheumatologist to the occupational therapy department of Hairmyers hospital for a consultation with one of the therapists.

That was the first time I met Heather.

I was very low at this point, Heather was a great support, giving me great advice and assistance.

She went out of her way to enrol me on a four week lifestyles course, even going so far as to book me two weeks on one course just about to start and two weeks later on in the year as I was going on holiday, because she felt it would benefit me greatly to get on the course as soon as possible.

How right she was.

The course is run by Heather and Jane-Marie, it is informative, fun and full of useful information, hints and tips.

They were patient and compassionate and had a great empathy for the people in the group.

They were there for me at a time when I was feeling very low and with their help I feel I have taken control of my rheumatoid arthritis.

I would like to say a huge thank you to them both, little steps really do start great journeys.

Dear Irishmammy,

Thank you for sharing your positive experience of the Rheumatology Occupational Therapy Service at Hairmyres Hospital. It is lovely to hear that you feel you benefited so much from the lifestyle management for arthritis programme. I will share your post with Heather. I hope you continue to feel in control of your arthritis and know that we are always here.

Kind Regards

Jane-Marie Stobie
