About: Glenfield Hospital

I went to ward 24 for a routine operation under general anaesthetic. My disabled wife came with me to drive me home.

We were told I would be one of the first to be operated on, so my wife went to wait in a day room, however this changed when it became known that interpreter for patient in the next bed had to be elsewhere by 3 pm. The patient's operation was brought forward even though they were supposed to be staying overnight. No one bothered to inform my wife even though they were aware she relied on Oxygen (she had only bought enough to last 5 hours) After 2 hours I went to find her, and tell her she should go home, and I would phone her when to come and collect me. After about 4 hours I went into theatre, then returned to the ward.

While the nurse was halfway through taking my blood pressure and saturation levels before I could go home, the other patient come to the nurse with their mobile phone and asked the nurse to speak to their sister. The nurse left me to attend to the other patient's needs so seemed to think the other patient was more important than me, Even though their operation was also routine. The treatment I received from some of the nurses was in stark contrast to the excellent treatment by the Consultant and their team.
