About: Leicester Royal Infirmary

My brother has been suffering the effects of lifelong alcoholism. He has a series of very difficult conditions, and was admitted to A&E after a fall resulting in external and internal blood loss. He was eventually admitted to Ward 36, as some of his symptoms included poor short term memory and confusion.

The doctor and their team treated my brother humanely - as if he was someone that they cared about. The doctor particularly, engaged with my brother, included , interacted , cared for him professionally, but also - and very importantly - cared for him as a person - despite his evident self - neglect and poor self-esteem.

As family of the patient, we too were included, our opinions sought and valued and we were also involved in the resolution of my brothers treatment and ongoing care. The doctor seemed to be able to do the impossible , and bring all the various agencies together so that we were all aware and able to work together .

I , and my family , wish to express our huge thanks - most especially to the doctor.
