"Disgraceful"

About: Mount Stuart Hospital

I was referred to an orthopaedic consultant here under the NHS and have to say that my dealings with them could not have been of a higher standard, I was treated with respect throughout and the treatment options were clearly explained. The problems began with the request for an MRI scan with contrast dye. I began to be concerned when I hadn't heard anything within two weeks of the appointment, which I was lead to believe was likely. When I called I was informed that the consultant radiologist was sick and to call back in a week or so to see what was going on.

When I called back I was told that the consultant was likely to be off for some time due to a serious injury and to call again in a week. It is now nearly 6 weeks since my appointment and there is still no sign of my scan. I understand that sometimes doctors are ill, however, for a hospital not to have put a contingency in place 3 weeks after finding out about an essential staff members long term sick leave is downright disgraceful.

I was delighted to hear of the high standards of care you received but very disappointed as to the delay incurred in performing your MRI scan.

Unfortunately there are only a few consultant Radiologists that perform these specialised scans which involve the use of contrast dye and due to unforeseen and unavoidable circumstances our regular consultant cover has been impacted.

We have since found a temporary solution which should address the immediate problem.

My sincere apologies for the delay you have experienced.
