"21st Century hospital delivering Victorian care"

About: Royal Bournemouth General Hospital

I was truly shocked at the treatment I recently received at this hospital. Nobody likes to be in hospital but I had a minimum expectation that my care needs would be met with dignity and privacy.

Nurses working on the day shift were rushed off their feet, senior nurses spent more time trying to unblock beds and make decisions about whether wards should be opened or not ,than on nursing patients.

The night shift staff were loud and frankly lazy.

I was told by a day shift member of staff that my cannula needed to be changed and would be carried out when night staff came on. Needless to say the cannula was not changed and that evening my drip was attached to the arm of a TV stand rather than a drip stand. When my drip fell on the floor, it was not replaced or cleaned, simply picked .up and reattached the TV stand.

This is one of numerous complaints I could record. The hospital is a disgrace.

Dear Anonymous

We are sorry that you did not have a good experience of our service. All staff aim to deliver a high standard of care at all times and we are sorry that in this case, this did not happen.

Senior staff manage both bed management concerns and focus on quality of care for all patients and prioritise dependant on the demands at any given time.

I have been asked by the surgical Matron to pass on her contact address as she would like to have the opportunity to discuss particular concerns with you in order to investigate further.

Matron - Sue.Davies@rbch.nhs.uk

Once again I apologise for you poor experience and hope you will accept Matrons invitation to discuss this further.

Regards Sue Mellor Head of Patient Engagement
