"Impressed with Minor Injuries and Fracture Clinic experiences"

About: Queen Margaret Hospital / Trauma & orthopaedics

(as the patient),

I am very impressed with the efficiency of the care I received at QMH, Dunfermline.

I reported to the Minor Injuries Unit on Monday morning. I was examined by an Advance Nurse Practitioner, ; sent for X-rays, and then more x-rays; had my arm put in plaster; was given a sling and a prescription for painkillers and told I would be contacted by some one from the fracture clinic before Thursday; and then discharged - and all in under 3 hours. Everything went very smoothly and all staff I encountered were friendly, pleasant and helpful.

I was contacted by phone on the following Wednesday (3 days later) and given an appointment at the fracture clinic for 8 days later.

The fracture clinic was very efficiently run. I was seen by a nurse 10 minutes after my appointment time, sent straight to have the plaster replaced and for x-rays and then to see the Consultant, Mr Weir. Mr Weir took his time to explain my fracture and answer all my questions. The whole visit took fewer than 50 minutes.

I was able to make an appointment that day for a return to Mr Weir in four weeks time.

My follow up appointment ran to the same pattern of activity and efficiency with the only delay being a 30minute wait to see the Treatment Room Nurse for a bandage and splint after being discharged by Mr Weir.

I was referred to Physiotherapy that same day and receive a letter 7 days later asking me to call to make my first appointment.

The call handler noticed that there was a Physiotherapy clinic closer to my home than the one which I had been registered to on her system and I was able to book an appointment there for four days later.

Throughout the whole process everything has gone very smoothly and efficiently and all staff have been friendly and welcoming.

Dear Mrs S Fife

Thank you for taking the time to tell us about your recent hospital experience. Whilst it is never good to have to attend hospital and a series of follow up appointments; it is re assuring to hear that it all went smoothly. In the Health Service we aim to deliver a safe, effective and person centred service for every patient every time. What you describe is exactly that, in real practical terms and it makes it so much more meaningful. I will be delighted to share your comments and I know that staff will very much appreciate you taking the time to post.

Many thanks for sharing

Regards

Louise Ewing
