"Refused ultrasound scan after GP referral"

About: Sandwell General Hospital

(as the patient),

Went to docs, was given letter to go for a scan.

Got to Sandwell hospital x ray dept. They sent me back to docs without a scan and said my GP's practice had not renewed their contract.

I should still be able to have a scan and not be turned away. I felt like I was I visitor to this country. I have a right to go to local hospital to have my scan or x ray without prejudice of any kind.

Sorry to hear about your experience. Sandwell & West Birmingham Hospitals NHS Trust no longer provides non-direct ultrasound services as Sandwell and West Birmingham Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) has commissioned another provider, Health Harmonie, to provide this service for patients. We have been assured by the CCG that GP practices have been informed of this change so patients should no longer be referred to us but to the new provider. We have spoken to the CCG who apologised to any patients who have been referred to us in error. If you need further help, please contact the CCG’s Time2Talk Customer Service Team on 0121 612 4110. They will be able to look into the issue you have raised and make sure that the GP practices have the correct information to appropriately refer patients.
