"Eye Care?"

About: Airedale General Hospital

I had been in some pain for 3 to 4 weeks and had visited my GP on Tues 9th Nov who diagnosed my condition, I was still in a lot of pain Fri 13th Nov nightime so arrived at A&E 8.30am Sat 14th, the reception staff were great

The eye (doctor I presume) then examined my eye in the specialist eye treatment room, of which they were very proud. They reassured me my GP was correct and to continue with the treatment of Chloramphenicol ointment 4 x a day.

By the Sun night / mon morning of Nov 16th I was in even more pain so rang my GP 8am Mon a.m who rang back (a different GP who said I probably needed BRI Eye Casualty), was seen by my GP within an hour then to BRI Eye Casualty by 10.45a.m where the doctor on duty saw my iritis and diagnosed it as such straightaway. Neither doctor, nor myself, can understand why this took so long to diagnose. I needed at least 3 x of the special eyedrops to dilate my pupil so it could relax and allow other treatment to start working. I am now on Maxidex drops EVERY HOUR for a week, Mydriacyl 3 x a day and Maxitrol ointment at night. I also need at least a full week off work to allow my eye to recover as I do a lot of close work and am going back to Eye Casualty at BRI in one week to see how this will have (hopefully) improved,

Thank you very much for your wonderful feedback regarding the care you received by all staff in the Emergency Department at Airedale General Hospital.

It is always nice to receive comments of appreciation which, amidst the constant pressures in the NHS, are a real boost to staff morale and I shall copy your comments to those who were involved in your care.
